Eight Guiding Principles of the Intercontinental Slavery Museum
Principle No.1
Acknowledge the Significance of the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent.
Principle No.2
Promote the Spirit of the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, established by UNESCO since 1997.
Principle No.3
Memorialize the history of slavery in accordance with the recommendations of the Truth and Justice Commission Report (2011)
Principle No.4
Promote a Bottom-Up Approach with Community Participation at All Levels, in accordance with the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024).
Principle No.5
Foster a Team Spirit in the Conceptualization and Design of the Museum, Bringing Together Academics, Qualified and Experienced Professionals, as well as the Community.
Principle No.6
Be guided by a spirit of creativity and innovation to create a vibrant and dynamic museum based on commemoration and reconstruction.
Principle No.7
Strive to Adopt a Self-Sufficiency Approach that Promotes Entrepreneurship and Other Small Businesses.
Principle No.8
Promote a "Ecological" Approach, where possible, in the Museum's Design, such as environmentally friendly architecture, green resource management for optimal energy and natural resource usage, and waste reduction.
