The Cabinet approved the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to oversee the implementation of Phases I and II of the Intercontinental Slavery Museum project. The functions of the SPV will include, among others:<\/p>

    • Developing a comprehensive list of objects and reconstructions of objects, documents, models, replicas, and other materials to be part of the Museum’s collection;<\/li>
    • Developing and fine-tuning the plot for the Museum’s permanent exhibition concept;<\/li>
    • Drafting texts for different exhibitions, exhibition descriptions, multimedia brochures, scenarios for short films to be presented on TV screens, and all related written documents;<\/li>
    • Planning the use of indoor and outdoor spaces and determining specific exhibitions to be housed there;<\/li>
    • Collaborating with experts and stakeholders in different research areas to gather information necessary for developing the Museum’s content;<\/li>
    • Engaging the services of multidisciplinary technical and scientific teams.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>

      During the initial phase of its operation, the SPV will be a government-owned company, and Mr. J. M. Simonet, currently the Secretary to the Civil Service, will be its president.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

      \n\t\t\t\t4. Cabinet has agreed to the setting up of an Intercontinental Slavery Museum, as recommended by the Truth and Justice Commission, at the Ex-Labourdonnais Military Hospital in Port Louis. The Museum would give more visibility to slavery and the slave trade in the Indian Ocean, promote slave history, and emphasize the contribution of the African Diaspora in the world development. The functions of the Museum would be, inter alia, to \u2013 \n\n(a) study slavery and slave trade in the Indian Ocean;
      (b) gather, collect and preserve documents and oral history on slavery; \n(c) create and preserve a catalogue of artifacts related to slavery; \n(d) host a permanent exhibition and organize regular roving exhibitions; and \n(e) promote curricular development, scientific research, as well as the production of educational and pedagogical materials.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

M.
